For alleged Poor Performance… 2 Big Fishes Gone at EDSA
His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio who is also acting as the Minister of Energy has on last week taken decisive decision to relieve two big fishes, Dr. Joe Lahai Somana, as Director General and Ing James Rogers, Deputy Director General from their duties with immediate effect. The reason for the President decision is yet to be known, but speculation is rife that it is as result of their poor performances which has stifled the growth and prosperity of the institution.
The press release dated 21st May,2025 marking the farewell of the two prominent individuals’ states that the Chief Operating officer Tesman Awo Egwe, will temporarily assume the position and be in charge of the management of the institution until new appointments are made.
The leadership shake-up is geared toward enhancing a complete overhaul of the institution to make it more efficient, accountable and transparency.
As part of the reform process, key individuals who have occupied managerial positions, including the Commercial Manager, Head of Revenue Collection, Head of Technical Commercial Operations, and Marketing Manager, have also been placed on leave.
These changes are designed to initiate comprehensive reform aimed at establishing a centralized revenue collection system, increasing private sector involvement, deploying tamper-proof meters, targeted staff training and capacity building, and direct oversight of the project implementation unit by the Ministry of Energy.
The release emphasizes the President’s strong commitment to transparency, accountability and transformation of the Energy Sector.
