Fire on the Mountain as… Alfred Peter Conteh Plans to Take APC Back to Court

By Kelvin Jay

Alfred Peter Conteh, the former Interim Chairman of the All People’s Congress (APC), has announced his intention to take legal action against the current Executive of the party.

Speaking recently to traders at Abacha Street, Conteh expressed deep concern over the direction of the APC, claiming that the party his grandfather once fought for no longer exists in its true form. According to him, the current leadership has lost both credibility and public confidence, asserting that the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has effectively “seized” the APC.

Conteh criticized the disconnect between the current Executive and the grassroots, arguing that the APC was once known for humbling itself before the electorate and apologizing for past missteps. “The APC of old would come down on its knees and sincerely engage with the people,” he said. “But today’s Executive, instead of uniting the party, is tarnishing the image of Samura Kamara while parading around on a so-called peace and reconciliation tour.”

He went on to describe the current leadership as a “Some People Congress” — implying they serve only a select few — and accused them of contributing significantly to the party’s decline.

In an effort to restore the APC’s integrity and pave the way for a potential return to power, Conteh revealed that he is considering legal action. He recalled a previous lawsuit he filed against the party’s leadership, which led to the removal of the controversial selection clause in the APC constitution. That legal battle, he said, was met with resistance from within, including letters to the presiding judge that extended the case from a projected six weeks to seven months.

Despite the setbacks, Conteh emphasized that his actions were always driven by a commitment to democratizing the APC and giving every member a fair chance, especially those aspiring for the party’s flagbearer position.

As tensions rise within the APC, all eyes will be on whether Alfred Peter Conteh follows through with his legal threats — and what implications that might have for the party’s future.
