Exposed!! MTI & Partners Discover Expired Goods At Sadenski Shop in Kroo Town Road
Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Fatmata Kargbo, along with officials from the National Consumer Protection Commission and Standards Bureau, initiated an impromptu spot check of shops and supermarkets in the central business district of Freetown, to inspect expired products and substandard goods at various shops.
This initiative is to safeguard consumers from consuming expired or substandard products.
The initiative is also in line with President Bio’s unweaving commitment to protect citizens’ welfare and eradicate the proliferation of expired or substandard products. It is against this commitment that the Bio government promulgated the Consumer Protection Bill, which was enacted in Parliament in 2020, with section 3 of the Consumer Protection Act establishing the National Consumer Protection Commission to achieve this goal.
Speaking about the visit, the Deputy Minister, Fatmata Kargbo, described it as part of their routine check to inspect goods and substandard goods, stating that what is shocking is the number of expired goods found in the sadenski store, which is not good for human consumption.
“From our inspection, majority of the food stuffs, including baby foods, noodles, apple juice, baby formula and others, found in this shop are expired. The most shocking is the baby foods and adult goods, such as mayonnaise and others”, said the Deputy Minister of Trade.
She said that this visit is part of their routine check to evaluate the goods in the market, stating that some of the goods discovered on the shelves had expired.
