Diesel Price Rises to NLe35 While Petrol Remains at NLe32

The Government of Sierra Leone has announced an increase in the price of diesel to NLe35 per litre, while the price of petrol will remain unchanged at NLe32 per litre.
The decision followed a meeting held this week between government authorities and Oil Marketing Companies to review developments in the global fuel market and assess their implications for fuel prices and supply in Sierra Leone.
Officials explained that the international oil market is currently experiencing instability due to tensions in the Gulf region and disruptions to key oil shipping routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz. These developments have placed pressure on global fuel supply chains and contributed to rising prices in several parts of the world.
After deliberations with petroleum stakeholders, the government agreed to maintain the current price of petrol while adjusting the price of diesel to reflect prevailing global market conditions.
Oil Marketing Companies have also committed that fuel prices will not increase further for at least the next two weeks, regardless of any additional changes in the international oil market during that period.
Government officials emphasized that fuel remains critical to transportation, electricity generation, and other essential services across the country. Authorities therefore say they are working closely with petroleum companies to manage the situation and ensure that fuel remains available nationwide.
The government added that it will continue to closely monitor developments in the global oil market and will keep the public informed of any further changes.
