Citing Impending Petitions… PPRC Suspends SLPP Lower-Level Elections in Multiple Constituencies

The Regulatory body for all Political Parties in SierraLeone otherwise known as Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has in a press release issued recently temporarily suspended SLPP’s lower-level elections in multiple constituencies across the country, citing pending petitions.
The Commission announced that elections in Port Loko District (North West Region) and several constituencies in the Northern, Eastern, and Western regions have been put on hold.
Affected areas include Bombali District’s Constituency 038, as well as several constituencies in Kono, Kailahun, Kenema, Bo, and Moyamba Districts. The suspension also extends to constituencies in both urban and rural districts of the Western Area.
This decision, according to PPRC, is in line with its constitutional mandate to ensure that the SLPP adheres to its own governing rules, including the party’s constitution adopted on August 11, 2020, and the executive election regulations issued on February 5, 2021.
The Commission also referenced national legal frameworks, including the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, the Political Parties Act of 2022, and the Public Order Act of 1965, as the basis for its intervention.
The SLPP Lower level election suspension has not got any timeframe as PPRC has not indicated when it will be lifted.
