CDS Urges Soldiers to Uphold Discipline and Serve Sierra Leone Above Politics

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Amara Idara Bangura, has issued a firm call to duty, urging officers and enlisted personnel to remain loyal to the nation’s ideals and steadfast in their responsibilities.
Speaking to a cross-section of military personnel, Lt. General Bangura stressed that the Armed Forces’ primary mandate is to safeguard Sierra Leone’s sovereignty, peace, and stability — not to be swayed by partisan politics or personal agendas.
“Our uniform represents commitment to country, not to any political party,” the CDS stated. “We must uphold the dignity of our institution by remaining neutral, focused, and ready to serve all Sierra Leoneans equally.”
He cautioned soldiers against political manipulation, emphasizing that their service must be anchored in discipline, professionalism, and the national interest.
Lt. General Bangura further called on the men and women of the Armed Forces to lead by example, promote unity, and maintain the highest standards of military ethics.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building a professional, respected, and apolitical military that stands as a pillar of national unity.
