Bringing Their Services Closer to Members: NASSIT Takes Bold Digitization Step

The Acting Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Mohammed Gondoe, has announced a major digital transformation drive aimed at bringing the institution’s services closer to its members and improving the efficiency of benefit processing and payments.
Mr. Gondoe made the declaration on Monday, 6th October 2025, during the official launch of the 2025 NASSIT Customer Service Week, held at the Julius Maada Bio Parade Grounds of the Sierra Leone Military at Hockey Pitch, Wilberforce, Freetown.
Delivering his keynote address, the Acting Director General described NASSIT as a statutory public trust charged with administering Sierra Leone’s National Pension Scheme. He noted that the framers of the scheme envisioned a system that would ensure meaningful retirement for employees and financial security for their dependants in the event of death.
Launching the week-long event under the global theme “Mission Possible,” Mr. Gondoe reaffirmed NASSIT’s commitment to being a centre of excellence in service delivery. He said the Customer Service Week serves as a moment to recognize the resilience of staff who work daily to serve members, as well as to celebrate the trust’s valued customers.
According to Mr. Gondoe, NASSIT’s ongoing digitization programme is a strategic move designed to modernize and streamline operations. This transformation, he said, consists of several major projects that will benefit not only NASSIT’s operations but also the nation’s workforce at large.
Among the key milestones achieved so far are:
• Upgrade of ICT Infrastructure and Data Cleaning:
NASSIT has fully upgraded its ICT network infrastructure and completed major data-cleaning exercises to enhance operational efficiency. The improvements ensure faster processing times, reduced downtime, and accurate, up-to-date member information readily accessible for all transactions.
• Web-Based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System (98% Complete):
This system integrates core administrative functions — including Finance, Procurement, Stores Management, and Fleet Management — into a single digital platform. It enables real-time data sharing, better accountability, improved resource management, and significant reductions in operational costs.
• Web-Based Pension Administration System (PAS) (99% Complete):
Central to NASSIT’s mission, this new system will completely transform how pension services are managed. Covering every aspect from establishment and member enrolment to benefit processing, the PAS will provide web portals and mobile applications for members and pensioners, ensuring faster and more transparent service delivery.
• Multi-Factor Biometric Registration System:
Currently at the bidders’ evaluation stage, this system represents a groundbreaking advancement in data security and identity verification. It will introduce a contact centre for registering members and pensioners using advanced biometric technology. Expected to go live before the end of 2025, it will strengthen data accuracy, prevent fraud, and safeguard member records.
Mr. Gondoe emphasized that the ICT transformation is not merely an internal upgrade but a national stride toward digital public service delivery. Members will soon be able to access NASSIT services “at their fingertips,” anytime and anywhere.
The Acting DG further disclosed that, over the coming year, NASSIT will focus on providing targeted services to members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) across various Western Area locations. He encouraged soldiers to take full advantage of the outreach exercise to address any long-standing pension or membership issues.
In conclusion, Mr. Gondoe expressed gratitude to the Chief of Defence Staff and the RSLAF leadership for their partnership and for granting NASSIT the platform to serve military personnel more effectively.
In his statement, Major General S.D.T. Ngagua, Chief of General Staff of the RSLAF, commended NASSIT for the initiative, describing it as a clear demonstration of collaboration between the two institutions. He said the exercise would help resolve many existing pension issues and ensure that officers can retire with dignity after years of dedicated service.
Also speaking, Brigadier General M.S. Senesie, President of the Men’s Committee of the Sierra Leone Army, expressed confidence in the administrators of NASSIT, describing them as “some of the finest professionals” he has encountered.
A workstation was established on-site to serve RSLAF members and visiting customers during the event, underscoring NASSIT’s commitment to taking its services directly to the people.
