Bribery! 2 Police Officers Sacked

To maintain the reputation and integrity of the Police force, two police officers, Abdul Sesay, Chief Inspector of Kimbadu Police Station, Tankoro Police Division, and Cpl 12718 David Alieu Mafinda attached to the Motemma Police Division have been dismissed from the SierraLeone Police for accepting bribe   from Mr and Mrs. Foryoh who were arrested for unlawful possession of 50 sachets of a suspected kush.

The dismissal of the two police officers was done following the recommendation of Assistant Superintendent of Police, Andrew Vandy during the police disciplinary tribunal held on Tuesday 9th April,2024 at the Tankoro Divisional Headquarters.

The tragic case evolved when a video revealing Chief Inspector Sesay appeared counting money alleged to have been received as a bribe from Mr. and Mrs. Foryoh who were apprehended for unlawfully having 50 sachets of a suspected KUSH reached the attention of the authorities.

CSP Augustine Kamara, the LUC Tankoro Police division in his deposition declared that when he got the video about the incident, he invited Chief Inspector Sesay and engaged him with it. Sesay confessed to being the individual in the video and submitted the 50 sachets of the arrested kush on his demands and the Le 700 allegedly collected was later brought by Cpl 12718 David Allieu Mafinda.

An investigation was immediately initiated into the matter and the defaulters were later arraigned before Presiding Officer Vandy.

In taking their Plea, both defaulters Pleaded Guilty to count 1&2 of the three counts of charges brought against them, including Corrupt Practice, Improper Practice, and Act prejudicial to good order and discipline. They denied count 3, the Nle 10,000 as alleged in the matter.

In giving his verdict, ASP Andrew Vandy said the conduct of the two officers is prejudicial to the good image of the institution and has tarnished the good reputation of the force. He found both of them guilty on all three count charges and recommended dismissal for them, subject to the Approval of the Inspector General Of Police. The two defaulters have been handed over to the criminal Investigations Department (CID) to be criminally charged to court.
