Auditor General Flags Suspected Ghost Workers at Chief Minister’s Office

The Auditor General’s Report has placed the Office of the Chief Minister under scrutiny following the discovery of suspected ghost workers on its payroll.

According to the report, out of 18 staff members listed, four—including two drivers—were not physically available for verification during the audit exercise, raising concerns about their actual existence. The salaries paid to the unverified staff amounted to NLe 76,896.

Management of the Chief Minister’s Office acknowledged the auditors’ concerns and later presented a staff list and payment vouchers. However, after reviewing the documents, the Auditor General identified anomalies, noting that the four staff members still failed to present themselves for physical verification.

In view of this, the Auditor General concluded that the matter remains partially unresolved, maintaining concerns over the legitimacy of the affected staff and the payments made to them.
