Attorney General Engages Isha Johansen on Correctional Service Reform and Women’s Empowerment

Guma Building, Lamina Sankoh Street, Freetown — Tuesday, 10 March 2026 — The Attorney General and Minister of Justice of Sierra Leone, Alpha Sesay Esq., has hosted Isha Johansen for a productive engagement focused on advancing correctional service reform and promoting women’s empowerment in the country.

Ms. Johansen—former President of the Sierra Leone Football Association, former Council Member of FIFA, former Executive Committee Member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and current Board Member of the FIFA Foundation—has been a strong supporter of initiatives aimed at improving conditions at the Female Correctional Centre in Freetown.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both leaders to discuss innovative initiatives such as “Football for Reform” and “Fashion for Change,” programmes designed to contribute meaningfully to the rehabilitation, skills development, and empowerment of inmates within Sierra Leone’s correctional system.

Discussions also focused on the critical role of the law in strengthening services and protections for vulnerable women and girls across the country. Attorney General Sesay emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships that support justice sector reforms, rehabilitation programmes, and opportunities for reintegration, particularly for women within correctional facilities.

In her remarks, Ms. Johansen commended the Attorney General for his leadership and the ongoing reforms within the justice sector. She also reaffirmed her commitment to working closely with the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice to advance initiatives that promote rehabilitation, dignity, and empowerment for women in the correctional system
