Afrimoney, Sierra Leone’s leading mobile money service provider, is set to officially launch its innovative “Tap 2 Pay” card today, Wednesday, 25th March 2026, at the highly anticipated “Chop and Chat” media engagement in Freetown.

The flagship corporate event is expected to bring together over 200 media professionals, making it one of the largest gatherings of journalists and media stakeholders in the country this year.

The “Tap 2 Pay” card is a digital payment solution designed to enable users to pay for goods and services seamlessly with a simple tap on a Point of Sale (POS) terminal—marking a significant step toward faster, safer, and more convenient financial transactions.

The event also serves as a platform to deepen engagement between Afrimoney and the media, while highlighting the growing importance of digital financial services in driving business growth, improving service delivery, and advancing national economic development.

Speaking at the engagement, Afrimoney’s Marketing Director, John Konteh, emphasized the company’s customer-first approach, noting that the new product was designed with user convenience and security in mind.

“Today, we are leaving our footprints in the sands of time,” he said. “At Afrimoney, we do not only innovate and sell products for profit—we place our subscribers at the center of everything we do. The Tap 2 Pay card has been specifically designed to offer comfort, safety, durability, and reliability.”

Afrimoney CEO, Martison Obeng-Agyeiw, formally introduced the card during a presentation, describing it as a transformative tool that will enhance customer experience and accelerate Sierra Leone’s transition toward a cashless economy.

“We are giving you these new cards so you can experience firsthand how they work and provide feedback,” he said. “We also hope you will help spread this innovation across Sierra Leone and beyond.”

Also in attendance were senior executives from Africell, including the company’s CEO and Chief Media Officer, who highlighted Africell’s longstanding partnership with the media and its continued commitment to supporting journalism and public engagement initiatives.

Other notable speakers included the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, Alhaji Manika Kamara, and the National Outreach Coordinator and Head of Strategic Communications Unit at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, Abubakarr Joe Sesay.

The event is widely being hailed as a major milestone in Sierra Leone’s digital transformation journey, underscoring the critical role of collaboration between financial service providers and the media in promoting innovation and financial inclusion.
