Our Findings revealed that the paperwork for the sub-contractual agreement has been in advanced stage and that the new company is now ready to take over some of the operational sites of Leone rock company.
Against this backdrop, information gathered by this press indicates that a redundant notice has been given to some workers by Leonerock Company, especially those affected, informing them about the transition and the willingness of the company to pay their end- of-service and redundancy benefit, while the company is preparing for the transition process.
Upon receiving the news with shock, the workers urged Leone rock company to do proper calculation of their benefits in accordance with the contractual agreement.
Meanwhile, rumors are circulating that Leone rock company is planning to give peanuts to workers as their end-of-service and redundancy benefit, contrary to article 25 of the company policy on end-of -service benefit which states that: “When an employee other than a fixed term employee, having served continuously with the company for a period of one year and has his employment terminated, declared redundant or has resigned his appointment or dies in active service, he shall be entitled to end of service benefits in accordance with the following schedules”:
Years of Service End-of-Service benefit, rate of pay for each completed years
1-2 Year 24 working days
Over 2-4 years. 30 working days
Over 4-6 years. 35 working days
Over 6-8 years. 42 working days
Over 8 years. 50 working days.
That clause also stipulates that all service in excess of a completed year shall be pro-rated and that the company may consider such a person for future vacancies.
The above clause is very specific about the obligation of Leone rock company to transfer its redundant workforce to the new company, but the affected workers are now worried if that will happen.
