As ECOWAS President Jets In… Will EBK Exile To Nigeria Become a Reality?

By VOS Writer

The ECOWAS President, Omar Turay, has written a strongly worded letter in early January to appeal to the Government of President Bio to relocate Former President Koroma to Nigeria.

The appeal of the ECOWAS President was contained in a statement signed on 2nd January, 2024.

According to Touray, the relocation of the Former President was part of the agreement reached by the ECOWAS High-level Mission to Freetown on December 23rd, 2023 led by President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwo Akufo-Addo, and President of Senegal, Macky Sall.

The statement disclosed that the former President has accepted the offer to be hosted in Nigeria, and subject to approval, arrangements, will be made to fly former President on Thursday 4th January. “I am pleased to inform your Excellency that as part of the agreement reached during the mission, the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has offered to host His Excellency Ernest Bai Koroma in Abuja on a temporary basis”.

However, when the information broke out, officials of the SLPP Government denied knowing about any deal to temporarily relocate the Former President to Nigeria in exchange for dropping Treason charges against him.

The Minister of Information, Chernor Bah, said that the former President remains under house arrest while awaiting trial.

As the controversy continues unabated, the President of ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, last week arrived in SierraLeone to get in touch with the SierraLeone Government.

Diplomatic sources intimated that the ECOWAS President is in Freetown to facilitate engagement concerning the temporary relocation of the Former President to Nigeria.

He said there is likelihood for the necessary arrangements to be reached for the relocation of the Former President Ernest Koroma To Nigeria.

Senior Official confirmed the arrival of the ECOWAS President, but refused to comment on the purpose of the visit.
