APC Warns:Constitutional Review Process Under Threat

By VOS Writer

The All People’s Congress (APC) has raised serious concerns over what it describes as growing threats to Sierra Leone’s constitutional review process, accusing the Government of manipulating and disregarding key recommendations contained in the Tripartite Committee Report.

Speaking at a press conference held on Wednesday, 28th January 2026, at the APC Secretariat, senior party member Kelfala Marah stated emphatically that the integrity of the constitutional review process is being undermined by the Government’s selective implementation of the Tripartite recommendations.

Marah pointed specifically to the recommendation calling for the establishment of an independent Steering Committee to supervise the appointment of Electoral Commissioners to the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL). According to him, this recommendation was intended to strengthen transparency, independence, and public confidence in the country’s electoral system.

He lamented that, despite the clear provisions of the Tripartite Report, the Government has treated the matter “with a pinch of salt,” showing little or no commitment to implementing the agreed framework. Marah further disclosed that the Opposition Leader in Parliament has written several letters to the Government, urging it to take the necessary steps to operationalize the Steering Committee, but those calls have gone largely unanswered.

“The continued silence and inaction of the Government on this critical issue raise serious questions about its commitment to electoral reforms and democratic governance,” Marah noted.

The APC warned that failure to fully and faithfully implement the Tripartite recommendations—particularly those relating to electoral governance—poses a significant risk to national cohesion and the credibility of future elections. The party called on the Government to act in good faith by honoring both the letter and spirit of the Tripartite Report, which was widely seen as a roadmap for resolving post-election disputes and strengthening democratic institutions.

The party reiterated its commitment to constructive engagement but cautioned that any attempt to sideline agreed reforms would further erode public trust in the constitutional review process.
