APC MPs Suspend Parliamentary Participation …Until their concerns be looked into regarding the Clerk of Parliament

Leader of the main Opposition APC in Parliament, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, has announced the suspension of all Parliamentary participation by APC Parliamentarians until their concerns be looked into regarding the clerk of Parliament.

According to the APC Parliamentary Leader, the reason for this decision is as a result of the failure of the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Thomas, to address their concerns regarding the Clerk of Parliament within the two-week timeframe promised by the Speaker.

“This decision follows our letter to the Honorable Speaker in which we raised serious concerns about the continued role of the Clerk of Parliament, who is currently contesting for the executive position within his political party. We believe this development undermines the neutrality and integrity of the Clerk’s office, which is expected to be strictly non-partisan in its service to Parliament”, the Leader of the Opposition stated in a letter dated 10th June,2025.

It can be recalled that the APC Parliamentary Leader wrote a letter to the Speaker of Parliament, demanding the resignation of the Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Paran Tarawallie, for breaching of the extant law following his declaration for the SLPP Secretary General Position while also serving as substantive Clerk of Parliament.

Upon acknowledging receipt of the announcement, the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Thomas, pleaded with the APC MPs not to suspend their parliamentary participation and encouraging them to exercise patience, further mentioning that he had held a meeting with the SLPP Leadership and assured the opposition that within one week period, they will receive his response.

In respond, the Opposition Leader, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, reminded the speaker of his initial request for two weeks for respond to their letter-a request granted to the Speaker by the opposition MPs without delay.

“The Speaker has informed us that he will provide a formal reply to our letter within one week. While we await that response, we are taking this principled stand by withdrawing from all Parliamentary proceedings. Our action is not intended to disrupt governance, but to safeguard the ethical standards that underpin our democracy”.

In light of the foregoing, the Opposition Leader stated firmly that the suspension has taken effect, and could only be abolished after receiving the response from the speaker.
