APC MP Accuses Chief Minister of Masterminding 2023 Election Rigging

A Member of Parliament from the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), Osman Abdul Timbo, has accused Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh of being the chief architect behind what he described as the alleged manipulation of the 2023 general elections by the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).

According to Hon. Timbo, the Chief Minister was subsequently rewarded by President Julius Maada Bio for his alleged role in the disputed elections. He further claimed that Dr. Sengeh was later assigned by the President to engage the APC leadership under the guise of peace-building.

“After the Chief Minister allegedly masterminded the stealing of the 2023 elections, he was sent by his boss, President Bio, to make peace with the APC,” Timbo alleged.

He cited what he described as behind-the-scenes efforts by the Chief Minister, including a private meeting with Dr. Samura Kamara and an alleged message conveyed to the Chairman of the Peace Commission indicating that President Bio was interested in meeting with the APC flagbearer.

Hon. Timbo also strongly rejected allegations by the Chief Minister that he was among those who coerced Dr. Samura Kamara into accepting aspects of the National Agreement for Unity. He insisted that at no point did he impose or force Dr. Kamara to agree to anything.

“I have never imposed my will on Dr. Samura Kamara,” Timbo said, adding that the Chief Minister is well aware of his standing and credibility among young people within the APC, which he described as unblemished.

He accused Dr. Sengeh of deliberately attempting to pit him against the APC base and against Dr. Samura Kamara, claiming that the Chief Minister is working to portray him and Dr. Dennis Marah as individuals who betrayed the APC flagbearer.

According to Timbo, the APC will not fall for what he termed “gimmicks” being propagated by the Chief Minister to sow division within the party.

He concluded by demanding an immediate retraction of what he described as false and damaging allegations made against him by the Chief Minister, warning that he is considering his next line of action if the matter is not addressed.
