APC Councillors Boycott Swearing-in-Ceremony at Freetown City Council

Elected Councillors of the All People’s Congress Party(APC) had boycotted the swearing-in-ceremony at the Freetown City Council which was done on Thursday under the supervision of the Vice President of Sierra Leone, Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh.
The decision of the Councillors was in line with the APC’s position to boycott all levels of governance.
Aki-Sawyerr, who was re-elected as Mayor in June detailed her party’s position on the matter through a Facebook post on Friday morning.
She clarified that their absence at the ceremony was a continuation of the APC Party’s decision not to participate in governance activities, due to their belief that the election results announced did not tally with the votes at polling stations.
Since the 2023 election results were announced, the APC party has expressed suspicion of electoral malpractice, accusing the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) of manipulating the election results in favor of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP)t. As a result, the APC has urged the ECSL to release detailed, disaggregated data from the election within a six-month window to clear any doubts.
Aki-Sawyerr’s post also emphasized the APC’s readiness to resolve the current political deadlock. “The APC Party has agreed to engage the government in a dialogue, which will be overseen by a credible independent external mediator or institution,” she stated.
