APC Casts Doubt on Local Arbiters To Resolve Political Stalemate
The Secretary General of the All People’s Congress Party, Lansana Dumbuya, has stated in press release dated 16th August,2023 that the APC’s position on boycotting governance still stands and remained intact amidst the engagement the party had with the Inter-Religious Council and the Independent Commission for Peace.
The APC Secretary General gave a brief background on the outcome of the engagement they had with the two peace brokers, which he said, was to know firsthand what was the party’s contestation are and the way forward in resolving the impasse between the Government and the party.
“On the 14 and 15 August, 2023, the party respectively met with the Inter-religious Council of Sierra Leone and the Independent Commission for Peace and national Cohesion… At the meeting, what came out clearly was that they wanted to know firsthand what the party’s contestation are and what the way forward in resolving the impasse between the Government and the party… We responded that our concerns are open knowledge and that we must be sincere in any dialogue by firstly pointing fingers where the conflict emanated from”, the Secretary General of the APC stated in the press release, further informing the public that the party’s position of boycotting governance still stands.
The APC furthered that just like all conflict are resolved at the table, but that they are not averse to sitting at a table and talk through their demands, and urged for a credible external independent arbiter or institution to facilitate the dialogue.
The APC concluded by stating that although the party had met with those institutions and channeled their concerns, but they did not engage with them in any form of negotiation.
