The Nurses and staff members of Princess Maternity Children’s Hospital, commonly known as Cottage, staged a peaceful protest in front of the hospital on Monday, demanding justice for their colleagues who were falsely accused in connection with the missing child-now found in Kenema with the baby’s family members.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Health on June 23rd 2025, the public was informed about the discovery of a two- week-old baby, who had mysteriously disappeared at Cottage Hospital on June 6.
The Ministry stated in the release that concerted efforts were being made by Health Authorities and the SierraLeone Police to gather information, and that a handsome reward had been set aside for anyone providing information leading to the discovery of the newborn baby.
“Since the mysterious disappearance of the two-week-old baby, the Ministry of Health has taken the matter seriously and immediately instituted measures by launching investigation. The leadership of Ministry visited the facility, implemented preventive security measures and offered a handsome reward for any information leading to the successful recovery of the baby”, the release states.
The Ministry also confirmed that, with support from the Sierra Leone Police, the baby was found alive over the weekend and is now being transferred to Special baby Care Unit at the ODCH Police hospital in Kingtom, where the Child is responding to treatment.
Reacting to the news, the nurses and the general workers staged a peaceful protest on the hospital grounds, demanding justice for their colleagues who have been under investigation in connection with the case.
While voicing out their displeasure, the nurses said that the false accusation has brought great embarrassment to the profession, stating that they no longer feel safe at work since the news broke.
“We demand Justice for our colleagues who have been placed under investigation in connection with the missing child case”, they voiced out.
Since their protest, no official statement has been issued by the hospital management or the Ministry of Health.
However, this newspaper is closely monitoring the situation to observe the nurses’ next course of action- whether they will initiate a sit-at–home strike if their concerns are not addressed.
