72 Workers Sent Home at APP-SL

News reaching Voice of Salone Newspaper that all is not rosy at the Petroleum Product Company as 72 Workers had been sent home on Garden leave.

The reason for such action, according to our investigation, was as a result of the financial crisis that is hitting the fabrics of the company and affect its daily operations.

For the past months now, APP is undergoing serious financial challenge that has prevented them to import petroleum products into the country. The company is struggling to run the business and pay its workers.

As a result of that challenge, the Company in January this year decided to send 41 of its employees on Garden leave, and recently lay-off 32 employees giving the total of 72 Workers that have now been sent home by the company.

According to the leave letter received by the affected employees, they are supposed to receive half of their salaries for a period of one month, and after which, their fate of coming back to work will be decided by Management.

Though it is the right of employers of any company to send their workers on garden leave but that must be done in relation to the clause in their signed contractual agreement.

The employers are bound to work in accordance with the clause in the contract and not to work outside of it.

In the case of APP, the management is being accused of breaching the law in the contractual agreement by sending its employees on garden leave. The employees, in their assertions, said they had never wanted to resign from the job, nor did they agree to go on any leave, but rather the company just took upon itself to send them on leave on reason best known to them.
