The All Petroleum Product Company(APP-SL) which has come to end the fuel Crisis in the Country, and to help addressing the unemployment rate in the country, as trumpeted by the SLPP Government, is currently on the brinks of collapse as a result of Financial     Problem.

Quite recently, the Company has sent 41 of its employees on Garden leave as a result of lack of financial strength to pay those workers and at the same time run the business.

Between 27 and 28th January, the affected Workers received their letter from Management for them to stay out of work for an unknown period of time.

Garden leave is a type of absence where an employee, upon giving notice of resignation, is requested not to return to the workplace but continues to receive pay.

This is taken in anticipation of the employee’s departure from the company. When there is a specific clause in an employee contract, you have the enforceable right to require employees to take garden leave. However, this is only the case if the employee agrees in advance, and ideally in writing.

But in this circumstances, the affected employees have never wanted to resign from the job, nor did they agree to go on any leave, but rather the company just took upon itself to send them on garden leave based on its current financial situation.
Based on the letter, the affected workers are supposed to receive half of their salaries for a period of one month, and after which, their faith of coming back to the company will be decided by the Management of the company.

However, as things stand right now, APP, is undergoing serious financial crisis and that has caused the company to struggle to buy their Products and even pay their workers.

For a considerable period of time since its inception, APP, has unable to live up to expectation because of the serious financial crisis that hitting the company hard followed by the cold war which has been existed between the Managing Director of the Company, Patrick O’Dwyer, and CEO and Founder, Philip, resulting the latter’s to pull back and hold on to his seed money which has caused the company to be stranded.
