Released On Youtube… “Bomeh” Documentary Exposes Impact Of Kush & Slum Life

A thirteen minute documentary series has been launched on YouTube couple of days ago, showcasing stack realities of how life is for slum dwellers and the way kush has negatively impacted the lives of Sierra Leonean youths.

The Bomeh series explore the spread of the raving drug, which has turned some young people into zombies. It also showcases that the kush cartel in Sierra Leone is operated by allegedly people at the  top, who are busy making money at the expense of the nation.  From the struggles of slum dwellers to the insidious grip of corruption and violence, every aspect of the Sierra Leonean society is laid bare in this documentary.

The Director, Idrissa Barry Jalloh, informed this medium that when the idea of doing this documentary came to him, he reached out to a Nigerian Writer to assist him turn his idea into a documentary, but did not succeed until he came across a Sierra Leonean Script Writer, Chernor Kargbo, who happened to be the Co-Director. This meeting led to the changing of the original concept to the Bomeh series, which is now available on YouTube . “We spent well over one year to do the shooting of ten episodes”, he noted, adding that they had to carry their gadgets with their bare hands to access certain areas that are not motorable. “Certain series in the documentary, we had to build the setting to ensure that we had it the way we wanted it”, he further revealed.

According to the Director, who is also the Producer, Executive Producer and Cinematographer, Bomeh portrays the current condition of slum communities, how people have risen from grace to grass, the struggle of pollution faced by the brothers and sisters residing in slum communities.

Before the production of these mind-jogging series, the Producers, together with the team, had to spend months doing researches so that their work would be credible and not taken with a pinch of salt.

Having launched the series on YouTube, the crew is hoping that their work will be embraced by fellow Sierra Leoneans, noting that the challenges faced as a result of dwelling in slum communities, will be addressed, if adequate information is provided.

Bomeh is produced by the KID-AFAN FILMS, an entertainment and movie producer, being part of KID-AFAN Company Limited, which focuses on providing coverage on education, health, full length feature filmmaking and production and television series.

Executive Producers include Dr. Isatu Kakay-Diallo, Idrissa Barry Jalloh and Adam Kamara.
