In a press release dated 18th June,2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed the general public about its decision to evacuate 36 individuals from the Islamic Republic of Iran due to rising security concerns in the region.

The group, which includes all diplomatic staff from the Sierra Leone Embassy in Tehran and Sierra Leonean students living in Iran, arrived safely in Armenia on Tuesday, 18th June 2025.

The decision follows a careful assessment of the security situation by Sierra Leonean authorities.

To maintain continuity in consular services, the Ministry has deployed a temporary task team to Armenia.

This team, made up of embassy personnel, will handle residual administrative duties and closely monitor the evolving situation in Iran.

The Ministry emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety of Sierra Leonean citizens abroad and providing ongoing diplomatic support despite the challenging circumstances.
